How to connect a payment gateway in E‑STAGE
Last reviewed: By Cluesfinders Editorial Team
An E-STAGE project can take payments through six gateways: Stripe, PayPal, Square, Razorpay, Easy Pay Direct and Paystack. They all connect from the same screen, with keys from your own account. This guide shows what to prepare, the steps, what each gateway asks for, and how to use it on your order forms.

From the E-STAGE Knowledge Base, October 2026. Confirm the current fields on the Payments screen of your own project.
Before you start: Business Details
PayPal, Razorpay, Square and Easy Pay Direct need your Business Details before they can connect. Until they are complete, an amber warning appears on the Payments screen and those gateways stay locked. Stripe does not ask for them first.
Required: business name, logo, address, country, city, state or province, and ZIP code. Optional: a support email and phone. These details also appear on your customers’ receipts, so use the name and address you want buyers to see.
Connect a gateway step by step
- Open your project in Genesis and go to Settings → Payments.
- Find the gateway’s card and click Connect.
- Open that gateway’s own dashboard in another tab and copy the credentials listed in the table above.
- Paste them into the matching fields and click Connect My Account.
- The card now shows Active. From there you can edit the credentials or remove the gateway.
Test keys and live keys
Most gateways give you two sets of keys. Use the test keys while you build, so you can try a checkout without moving real money, and the live keys when you are ready to take real payments.
With Paystack the prefix tells you which is which: pk_test_ and sk_test_ for testing, pk_live_ and sk_live_ for real payments. Before you launch, check that the live pair is the one saved.
Paystack: currencies and the webhook
- Currencies: NGN, GHS, ZAR, KES and XOF, plus USD for Nigerian and Kenyan Paystack accounts.
- Where it works: order forms (one-off products, subscriptions and free trials), paid meetings and the online store checkout.
- Add the Webhook URL in your Paystack dashboard. It is what tells E-STAGE about renewals, refunds and purchases where the buyer closed the browser before coming back.
- One webhook URL can serve several of your projects.
Use the gateway on your order forms
- An order form needs at least one connected gateway.
- On each form, choose which payment methods it offers.
- Price, billing interval, currency, trial, image and description come from the product in the E-STAGE CRM. If you change them there, click Patch Hook on the form to pull them in again.
- Switch on Show promo-code field if buyers should be able to enter a discount code.
Which gateway should you choose?
Start with the gateway you already use, or the one your buyers already trust in your country. Fees, payout times and supported countries are set by each provider, not by E-STAGE, so compare them on the provider’s own site.
If you sell mainly in Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Kenya or the XOF countries, Paystack covers those local currencies. You can connect more than one gateway and offer a choice at checkout.

Frequently asked questions
How many payment gateways can E-STAGE connect?
Six: Stripe, PayPal, Square, Razorpay, Easy Pay Direct and Paystack, all from Settings → Payments.
Why can’t I connect PayPal?
PayPal, Razorpay, Square and Easy Pay Direct stay locked until your Business Details are complete. Fill in the required fields and the amber warning goes away.
Where do I find my Stripe keys?
In your Stripe dashboard, under the API keys for your account. E-STAGE asks for the Publishable Key and the Secret Key.
Do I need a webhook?
Paystack and Easy Pay Direct use one. For Paystack, add the Webhook URL so renewals, refunds and purchases where the buyer closed the browser reach E-STAGE.
Can I change or remove a gateway later?
Yes. A connected gateway shows Active on its card, with options to edit the credentials or remove it.
