How to join a Google Meet (link, code, or from your phone)

Last reviewed: By Cluesfinders Editorial Team

Joining a Google Meet is usually a single click, but the exact steps depend on what the host sent you — a link or a meeting code. The good part: on a computer you can join from a browser with no account and nothing to install. Here is how to get in every way, including from your phone.

The most common way — the host sends a link by email, chat, or calendar invite.

  • Click the meeting link.
  • Allow access to your camera and microphone if asked.
  • Set your camera and mic, then click Join now (or Ask to join if the host has to admit you).

Join with a meeting code

Sometimes you are given only a code (a series of letters like abc-defg-hjk) instead of a full link.

  • Go to meet.google.com in a browser, or open the Meet app.
  • Type or paste the code into the Enter a code or link box.
  • Click Join, then Join now.

Join from Google Calendar or Gmail

  • In Google Calendar, open the event and click Join with Google Meet.
  • In Gmail, click Meet in the left sidebar, then Join a meeting and enter the code.

Join on your phone

  • Tap the meeting link to open the Google Meet app (install it first if prompted).
  • Or open the app, tap Join with a code, and enter the meeting code.

Do you need an account or the app?

On a computer, no — you can join from a browser as a guest without a Google account or any install. You may be asked to type your name and wait for the host to admit you.

On a phone, the free Google Meet app is the smoothest way in.

Hosting instead of joining?

Everything above is for joining a meeting someone else set up. If you are the one running sessions — especially client calls or events where the experience is part of your brand — the setup is a little different, and a plain meeting link is not always the right tool.

Frequently asked questions

How do I join a Google Meet for the first time?

Click the meeting link, allow your camera and microphone, and click Join now (or Ask to join if the host admits people). No account or install is needed on a computer.

Do you need to install Google Meet to join?

No. On a computer you join from a web browser with nothing to install. On a phone, the free Google Meet app is the easiest way in.

How do I join with a code?

Go to meet.google.com (or open the Meet app), enter the meeting code in the Enter a code or link box, and click Join.

Why can’t I join a Google Meet link?

Usually the host still has to admit you, you need to be signed in to an allowed account, or the meeting has not started yet. Trying again once it starts often fixes it.
