How to join a Microsoft Teams meeting (link, ID, or as a guest)

Last reviewed: By Cluesfinders Editorial Team

Joining a Microsoft Teams meeting is usually a one-click job, but the exact steps depend on what the host sent you — a link, a calendar invite, or a meeting ID and passcode. The good news: you can join from a browser without a Teams account. Here is how to get in every way, including as a guest and from your phone.

This is the most common way — the host sends a link by email or calendar invite.

  • Open the invite and click Click here to join the meeting.
  • Choose to open the Teams app or Continue on this browser.
  • If you are not signed in, type your name.
  • Set your camera and microphone, then click Join now.

Join from the Teams calendar

If the meeting is on your own Teams calendar, you do not need the link.

  • Open Teams and select the Calendar tab on the left.
  • Find the meeting and click it.
  • Click Join, set your audio and video, then Join now.

Join with a meeting ID and passcode

Sometimes the host gives you only a numeric meeting ID and a passcode instead of a link.

  • Open the Teams app or the join-by-ID page in a browser.
  • Enter the meeting ID and the passcode from your invite.
  • Click Join meeting, then Join now.

Join without a Teams account (as a guest)

You do not need a Microsoft account to join. When you open the meeting link, choose Continue on this browser, type your name, and click Join now — you join as a guest.

This is what makes Teams workable when a client sends you an invite and you do not use Teams yourself.

Join on your phone

  • Tap the meeting link to open the Teams mobile app (or install it if prompted).
  • Or, if the invite includes a dial-in number, call it and enter the conference ID to join by audio only.

Hosting your own instead of joining?

Everything above is for joining a meeting someone else set up. If you are the one running sessions, the setup is a little different — and for a public, on-brand event, a plain meeting is not the right tool at all.
